UN International Youth Skill Development program

To mark UN International Youth Skill Development Day on July 15th,2015, as part of FICCI FLO’s “Women- in- Transport” initiative , an interactive session on Social Communication was organised by our Skill development team members Ms Jayashree Singhani & Ms Sunitha Yellapanthula at Gun Rock community hall, Secunderabad

Our esteemed FICCI FLO’s partners in the initiative –RTA Telangana Government, Maruti Suzuki Driving School, APSA, an NGO and Uber attended the event and promised to make the initiative a success.

Addressing 25 upcoming women drivers Mr.J. Panduranga Niak, Joint Commissioner of Transport & Roads, Government of Telengana lauded FLO’s initiative, saying it would go a long way in empowering women financially. He said that women have broken the glass ceiling in many fields but transport remained an exception. Pointing out that almost all the drivers were men, he said such initiatives would help in bridging the gender gap. He hoped that at least 50% of the drivers would be from the fairer sex in the coming years. Mr.Naik assured all help on behalf of Telangana Government to make Women-in-Transport’ initiative a huge success.

Mr. Siddharth Shanker GM Uber Hyderabad offered to provide placements to the participants on successful completion of their training. He said, Uber would also extend financial help in procuring vehicles at subsidised rates. He made a video presentation showcasing how the life of a woman, Sindhu changed for the better and improved financially after she became a cab driver/owner. This success made her to aspire for owning a bigger vehicle like Toyota Innova. This video really inspired our 25 upcoming women drivers for a hopeful & better tomorrow

Mr.Suresh from Maruthi Suzuki assured full support in making the women drivers proficient in their driving skills. Mr. Basava Raju from APSA offered to identify prospective candidates for the training and make a difference to their lives.

The event boosted the morale and confidence of the participants, who expressed their desire to successfully complete the training and financially support their respective families.
