Trade & Investment Opportunities for women in Japan Facilitated by JETRO and JCCII

A very exclusive and informative session was hosted by the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi for the members, on Trade & Investment Opportunities for women in Japan. The objective of this session was to create more business and partnership opportunities for women entrepreneurs in India and Japan.

This was the 2nd programme held under the aegis of the Embassy Exchange Programme, initiated by FLO President Ms Harjinder Kaur Talwar, to engage in a global platform and facilitate greater international linkages.

On the occasion, FLO President, Ms. Harjinder Kaur Talwar, said, “It is undeniable that If we hope to create a world where all women can shine — where more women are driving innovation, holding seats in government or running companies — we must all invest in women empowerment. When I took over as President of FLO, I looked at Japan as one of our allies in this initiative and I reached out to the Embassy. The primary objective was to explore the synergies that exist between Japan & India for enhancing & deepening business engagements, largely for women.”

She further added, “I am very thankful to His Excellency Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India, for his enthusiasm and encouragement towards this association, and today’s business session was a step ahead in this direction. Women, as key agents to achieve the economic, environmental and social changes required for gender equality, will be fundamental to this partnership between both nations.”

“With this objective, we sought interest from our members to look at business opportunities in Japan, facilitated by FLO & the Embassy. And we received an overwhelming response”, she further said.

Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu said, “Empowering women has always been a subject close to my heart. Before assuming the post of Ambassador of Japan to India, I was driven to launch the World Assembly for Women (WAW!) which has established itself as a premier international forum on women’s empowerment. After my arrival in India as the Ambassador, I have always considered how Japan can contribute to promoting women’s empowerment in India.”

It is well known that Japan is promoting women’s empowerment in India through its Official Development Assistance projects and Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects in various fields.

Ambassador Hiramatsu commended FLO as one of the most powerful organizations in India in encouraging women’s empowerment and further stated,  “This meeting is set up in response to the strong desire of President Ms Harjinder Kaur Talwar to expand the business of FLO members with Japan. I hope this meeting will prove to be a great opportunity for further increasing FLO members’ interest in Japan and will contribute to the significant expansion of business with Japan.”

The session, conducted by JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (JCCII), provided an ideal platform to answer business-related queries pertaining to exploring business opportunities in Japan.

With this exclusive business exchange, FLO endeavours to enhance bilateral trade and be an enabler of women empowerment. It will be followed by a high-powered business delegation to Japan, led by FLO President, Ms Harjinder Kaur Talwar, for holding business meetings.
