Sussanne Khan’s Entrepreneurial Journey

Sussanne Khan founded The Charcoal Project in 2011 which is a boutique interior decorating store housing collections of renowned designers like Andrew Martin, Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth. The year 2020 marks nine years of The Charcoal Project and Sussanne took out time to talk about this project with the FLO members, which has now gained global recognition. She was awarded Asia’s Most Influential Designer Award at the Designer Of The Year (DOTY) Awards 2019 which was held at Kuala Lumpur.

Talking about the inspiration for her work, she said she gets inspired by “human emotions”. Sussanne hopes that one would feel “energised” walking into a space designed by her. Her company’s ethos comes from the fact that each of her team members is noticed and their opinion valued. She feels that it’s these small details that she gives importance to which makes her success story. On answering some of the queries put forward by the FLO members, Sussanne said she gets her inspiration comes from nature and believes that recycling the natural materials from there.

Handling her company during Covid times has been an uphill task but nevertheless, Sussanne’s innovative entrepreneurship skills have always helped her come out on the winning side thanks to her “never-give-up” attitude and positive thinking. And that was the message she wanted the FLO members also to have.
