National Handloom Day commemoration

FLO NE chapter commemorated the National Handloom Day by distributing yarn to weavers of Ranibari ,situated in the RI Bhoi district of Meghalaya. The village is peopled by Garos,Rabhas and Boros which are tribal communities dwelling in Meghalaya bordering Assam.

FLO considered Ranibari as an apt choice to observe Handloom Day as our member Anannya Sharma of YARN GLORY has been working as a Designer/ Entrepreneur there at Ri Bhoi.

The function was held on 7th morning on the ground of weavers homestead . Ms Sharma spoke on the significance of the National Handloom Day and contributions of the artisans towards their economic well-being and preservation of the rich heritage. She explained the various initiatives the government and NGO s are adopting for the welfare of the weavers in this sector.

On behalf of FLO Ms Sharma also distributed yarn and loom accessories to the weavers.
