LAUNCH OF WE Initiative & PANEL DISCUSSION ON FAMILY BUSINESS.DISCOVERING MY IDENTITY & ROLE IN THE FAMILY,BUSINESS &PROFESSION.

We FLO had WE (women in Education) launch from 3.30pm to 4 pm before the Family Business Session. Speakers were Vasvi Bharat Ram ,Vice-chairperson of Sriram Schools who is current Vice-President,FLO,Delhi and WE national head, Mr.Jagdeeswara, IAS women & child welfare, Lakshmi Manchu, actress &Teach for change Ambassador. Chairperson Hyderabad chapter Ms.Rekha Lahoti addressed the members and media and said that WE initiative is to help train women and get them employed in schools as security guards, bus drivers, conductors, caterers, management staff ,administration staff. Schools will give women a safe & secure environment to work. Hyderabad chapter WE initiative head is Madhavi Chandra, Principle Geethanjali Devasaala.Hyderabads Educational institute heads were invited and they signed a pledge saying that they will employ women into their institutions.

FAMILY BUSINESS SESSION
Rekha Lahoti in her welcome address spoke about the science of Family Business and stressed on the importance of having proper principles to follow to improve family relationships &optimize business.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

MALVIKA RAI :Past president FLO ,chairperson of IILM and Banyan Tree Schools,Delhi.she into education since 1984 and have schools in 7 states.she also runs an NGO educating economically poor children.She is a mentor & a natural motivator for the FLO members pan india.

VASAVI BHARAT RAM is the vice-chairperson of the Shri ram schools,which have consistently been rated asone of the top schools of the country.she is a founding member of the Shri ram millennium schools and on the board of the SRF Foundation and save the children, India.She is also on the FICCI and CII School Education committees.She is currently National Vice President of FLO.

SARITA REDDY is the Executive Director,Gayatri Sugars.She is an expert in Administration ,General Management,and Finance.

PROF.K.RAMCHANDRAN is executive director of Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise at ISB .He is a specialist on Family Business, Entrepreneurship and Strategy.He has 33yrs experience as an academician in IIM ,Ahmedabad and ISB, Hyderabad.

  • Almost 90% of businesses are Family businesses and are often accused of lack of professionalism ,nepotism,infighting and mismanagement
  • Only 13 % of the businesses survive till 4th generation.4% survive above 4th generation world wide
  • The role of women in family business is very significant,they are called CEO s,chief emotional officers .Women are much more educated ,mobile and understand the economic growth cycle.Role of women is redefined.Now to bring in balance and understanding in family business women play a major role.
  • Family business is an extention of the family.Attitude problems will crop up easily.Each family member should wear different role caps in the family and in business.Family members need to be educated about this.Economic ownership by family and Emotional ownership of non-family members should be taken into consideration.
  • There are 10 dimensions in family business which affect performance, survival and growth.
  • COMMUNICATION high quality ,positive, assertive communication is required.PROFESSIONALISM is required not just emplying qualified people ,but the attitude of people matter.OWNERSHIP needs to be organized.RETIREMENT or redefining of portfolio of activities should be done.SUCCESSION should be managed wisely.ENTREPRENEURSHIP should grow.BUSINESS STRATEGY should be built competitively and change it every three years.PHILANTHROPHY giving back to the society is very important.TOGETHERNESS has to be nurtured ,be competitive in business and compassionate in the family.
