Launch of FLO Agriculture Initiative for Women & Baisakhi Celebration

FLO launched its new initiative for Recognizing the Role of Women in Agriculture – “ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE FOR WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE IN INDIA” on April 13, 2019.

Ms Harjinder Kaur Talwar, MD & CEO at Comvision India Pvt Ltd took up the mantle as the National President of FLO, from the outgoing President, Ms Pinky Reddy on April 13, 2019 at the 35th Annual Session.

Ms Talwar began her tenure with the launch of the Agriculture Initiative for empowering women from the sector, on the auspicious day of Baisakhi, the harvest festival of Punjab.

A declaration was signed by FLO on the occasion, resolving to work towards recognizing the role of women in the agricultural sector and play the role of a catalyst in transforming of the situation of the women farmers.

The objective is to play the role of the facilitator and thought leader in changing the lives of women, by empowering them economically and otherwise and by being the collective voice for policy change.

This is the first time that FLO has taken up Agriculture as one of its primary initiatives, towards the goal of women empowerment.

Harjinder Kaur Talwar says, “With this initiative, FLO aims to play the role of the facilitator and thought the leader in changing lives of women, by empowering them economically and otherwise and by being the collective voice for policy change.”

“What better way to start my term as the President of FLO. I am privileged to launch an initiative which recognises the role of women in the sector where the largest chunk of women is engaged. If we empower this sector, we will empower INDIA and its growth, she added.

It was followed by Baisakhi celebration with eminent Bollywood playback singer and performer, Mika Singh and Minu Bakshi, a multi-talented artist – a Poet, Linguist and Singer. She has made a significant contribution to the preservation of the musical folk traditions of Punjab via her albums of Punjabi folk and traditional wedding songs.

Hosted by Satinder Satti, television anchor, actress, poet, dancer, singer, and former Punjab Arts Council chairperson, members thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations.
