FLO North East Chapter organized a very interesting evening at Brown Bean Café,Uzanbazar,Guwahati. Ms Mitra Phukan, one of the most renowned authors in the North Eastern Region was the Chief Guest.

The Day Chair for the event was Ms. Indrani Deb, who introduced Ms. Mitra Phukan to the members by giving an insight into her journey as a writer. Mitra Phukan addressed the audience and shared her experiences as a writer. She also added that she is open to mentoring upcoming writers.

It was a great experience for the members to hear the achievements & challenges faced by the powerful women writer of the North East India, who makes her region visible to the rest of the world, through her pen.

Her writings awaken the spirit and deep thought of the readers, who gets to know about a women’s feeling on sensitive issues, like terrorism and others. Her writings gave shape to her innermost thoughts ,and a clarion call to all to rise to the situation, and not be a mere spectator.

When we think of women empowerment, it’s not just financial, there are other angles to it also, such as empowerment of thoughts and ideas. The event was very encouraging for the members which motivated them to arise and awake and show the way, that we can bring out the best within us.

Today, writing has a wide option, it can be in columns, journals, traditional books and novels, and the most difficult the translators job, in which Mitra Phukan is an adept. Writing is an important tool, a big motivator, and a boat to carry your thoughts forward. Women should be encouraged to write in any language, so that the message reaches all.

Vice Chairperson Ms. Smita Agarwal gave the vote of thanks.
