Indian Royalty in Contemporary Times New Delhi: September 27, 2012

YFLO Delhi organized a panel discussion titled ‘Indian Royalty in Contemporary Times’ on September 27, 2012. As royal as royalty can get within a contemporary framework, the occasion was graced by – Kumkum Singh of Nabha, Devyani Rana Singh of Singrauli, Divya Kumari of Jubbal in conversation with Jyotsna Singh of Kashmir.

The royal world has always been a fascinating subject of discussion and it was a very interesting panel discussion, where members of the royal families spoke on contemporary royalty and the ‘modern’ setup that they are a part of now.

Kumkum Singh talked about her life and said that royal life had its own advantages but the contemporary life is better in terms of enhanced sense of freedom and candor for women.

Devyani Rana Singh highlighted on the developmental works undertaken by her and emphasized that family values and responsible approach matters more than the royal background.

Divya Kumari emphasized on the significance of the folk culture and the importance of its conservation. She added that it is imperative to understand our own heritage and the values attached to it. She believed that one can be modern in outlook and yet be connected with your traditions.

Jyotsna Singh adeptly steered the discussion and added meaning to the discussion with her own experiences and observations. Her anecdotes made the discussion more interesting and lively.
