‘Heritage Day’ At The Raj Bhavan

August is the month to commemorate our city’s heritage as Chennai was founded on August 22, 1639. In keeping with this, on Tuesday 31st August 2010 FLO Chennai Chapter celebrated our Heritage Day at one of Chennai’s grand landmarks, the Raj Bhavan and got to witness its grandeur, colonial structure and architectural wonder of the place. We witnessed the exquisite carvings on wood and the extraordinary paintings that adorned the walls of His Excellency the Governor’s residence. This was followed by a talk by Mr. S. Muthiah, an expert on Chennai’s history and an authority on the city of Chennai. His talk along with an exquisite collection of photographs on “The Raj Bhavans of Tamil Nadu” detailed the history of the Raj Bhavan and how it came about to be the Governor’s residence. Ms. Ayesha Barnala Sandhu the granddaughter of the present Governor of Tamil Nadu Sri Surjit Singh Barnala was our Guest of Honour.
