The Future is Female – From Grass-root to Boardroom with Ruma Devi & Barkha Dutt

We organized an event on The Future is Female – From Grass-root to Boardroom with Ruma Devi & Barkha Dutt In this event, it was a journey of sharing the experiences and learning’s from them. We got to know a lot from them. Some excerpts from Barkha Dutt “Every day is battle for a woman. For a woman to do well, you have to develop a skin as thick as that of a rhinoceros. As Women we all are different & we need to celebrate our diversities. Digital media is the media of future – TV is a dying media.”

Ruma Devi on the other hand very poetically said “Ghunghat ke bahar zindagi khoobsurat hai”. One gets satisfaction only by doing one’s own work. Even when so many women work together, there is never conflict because all women are happy that they are working and are empowered. Money is power so work for yourself and the women around you. It’s not easy to break old traditions but it’s not impossible too. If we determine to break barriers even adversities cannot stop us. Explore the power within you. Villages have given the cities-art and talent, in return, we want a little knowledge from the cities. Women can handhold & help each other.

Chhavi Rajawat, Sarpanch Soda Village, Rajasthan. She was an added surprise element towards the end of the session and she co-related her scenario on being the front of a village. We need to be strong in political circles if we want to be heard. We should not look at rituals and traditional practices superficially. There are various reasons (not all correct) for these traditions, and some of them including ghunghat, child marriages, etc are still prevalent. We need to get to the root before we make opinions on them.
