FLO Women’s Car Rally in support of “Save The Girl Child”

The first programme of FLO Uttarakhand Chapter was a Women’s Car Rally in support of “ Save the Girl Child” on January 14, 2918. It was flagged of by The Hon’ble Chief Minister from his residence.  The rally was organised a day after the FLO Uttarakhand Chapter was launched on January 13, 2018 by Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, in presence of  Ms. Dia Mirza, Actor, Producer & UN Environment Ambassador and Smt. Rekha Arya, Hon’ble Minister of Women Empowerment & Child Development, Uttarakhand.

The rally saw enthusiastic participation with almost 60 cars helmed by over 150 women drivers and navigators traverse through Clock Tower and Rajpur Road before reaching Antara Senior Living where the event concluded. The cars were decorated with colourful stickers, balloons and flowers accentuating the ‘Save Girl Child’ message

Shilpi Arora, Founder Chairperson of Uttarakhand Chapter said , “Through this rally, we wanted to break the stereotype that women are not good enough behind the wheel. A woman can be as good a driver as a man and they should not be judged on the basis of their sex.”

The first prize was given to Meetu Bansal while the second and third position was bagged by Bhavana & Akansha respectively. Malvika Rai was awarded with the title of ‘car with the best message.’ The best-looking car award was given to Jaishree Aggarwal while Akansha & Jyoti were awarded with the ‘most intelligent driver and navigator team.’ Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zaffar was also present to cheer on the participants.
