FLO Northeast organised a demonstration of Traditional, Folk Crafts & paintings at Bishnu Nirmala Trust , Guwahati.

These artists from Midnapore in West Bengal, showcased their art and crafts for the members. They are practising arts that are an important part of Eastern India’s cultural heritage, but they will surely die out unless they receive widespread appreciation and support .

“Pattachitra” ( Patta in sanskrit means cloth and Chitra is painting), while Chhau means shadow or mask, and is a genre of Indian tribal martial dance. These folk art forms portray traditional motifs and stories from religion, myths and local legends and contemporary themes . The Chhau dance is performed by male dancers, at night, in open spaces, accompanied by a variety of drums, reed pipes and Shehnai.

Mrs Manju Choudhury was the Day Chair, and Mrs Rita Chawcharia gave the vote of thanks.
