Changing roles of Women : Hon’ble Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha

What touched everyone’s heart was the simplicity and authenticity of the lady. What surprised everyone was her subtle sense of humour. FLO Kolkata Members and dignitaries had the honour of meeting the Hon’ble Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha in conversation with the Vice Chancellor of Presidency University, Kolkata, Prof Anuradha Lohia on the Changing roles of Women.

The event saw over 150 FLO Ladies grace the occasion and absorb the words of wisdom. “Kolkata feels very much like home” says the Governor. “I have not come empty handed to you … I have bought the gift of trust.” For last 40 years I have been saying this that women have really progressed and these are good times, we see women making a mark in every field which is inspiring for so many others.”

She emphasised on the importance of family too in ones life from where the foundation of values and integrity is imbibed in every child’s mind, be it male or female. She reiterated the fact that girls should be trained to be ‘familist’ not ‘feminist’ and have a healthy balance between work and family. That is true empowerment. “Zimedaari ko imaandari se nibhao” – was her advice to all Flo Ladies.

The event also saw the Launch of SWAYAM – the business consultancy and mentorship cell for Women Entrepreneurs by the Hon’ble Governor. The Mayor of Kolkata, Shri Sovan Chatterjee in his speech extended all cooperation to help this initiative in every possible way. He urged the women entrepreneurs to take up corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the development of the city. FLO plans to provide support to budding and existing women entrepreneurs in establishing their business and will also extend marketing and branding strategies for their business, govt. finance and promotional schemes through MSME’s, bank finances and equity funding and tie ups with HR agencies.
