Brandwagon”, with Mr Darshan Mehta, President and Chief Executive of Reliance Brands Limited (RBL)

FLO organised a very interesting webinar titled “Brandwagon”, with Mr Darshan Mehta, President and Chief Executive of Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) on June 30, 2021.
The discussion was on the business of fashion and luxury and how Mr. Mehta turned RBL into one of the most recognised and trusted brands in India.

Ujjwala Singhania, President FLO said, “Our commitment to build an entrepreneurial driven economy and resurgent India where women play a major role in the development of the country is of primary importance. My focus is on empowering women by facilitating an enabling environment that promotes entrepreneurship, industry participation and economic development of women.”

RBL is the largest player in the premium to luxury fashion and lifestyle space in India, having partnered with over 50 brands including as Ermenegildo Zegna, Giorgio Armani, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Burberrys and Salvatore Ferragamo.
Mr Mehta founded RBL in 2007 as the first employee, and the company now has 750 employees working in its corporate offices and over 5,000 employees working at the stores. It runs a portfolio of 420 mono-brand boutiques and 350 shop-in-shops across over 60 cities in India.

Addressing the women industry leaders of FLO from across Delhi and 18 Chapters, Mr Darshan Mehta said, “As time goes by, what we are going to see is that the centre of gravity for consumption of luxury good will gradually shift from the Western world to Asia. Last two years, more than 50 percent of consumption has in fact come out of Asia. The best way to promote Made in India products is this thrust as the consumers themselves will be influencing this shift to Indian sensibilities and aesthetics.”

He further added, “Despite the boom of online shopping, good old brick and mortal selling and buying will not fade. There is a different feel about the tradition way of shopping especially in the luxury section. Indian luxury is growing and it will grow further.”

Ms Sonia Shenoy, Senior Editor, CNBC TV18 moderated the session.
