“News as an Agent of Social Change” Interaction with Arnab Goswami

FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) organised an interactive session with Arnab Goswami, Managing Director of the news channel Republic TV on “News as an Agent of Social Change” on May July 28, 2017.

An Oxford University graduate, Mr Goswami started his career at the Kolkata-based Telegraph in 1994 before joining NDTV. He was the editor-in-chief and a news anchor of the Indian news channel Times Now and ET Now, from 2006 to 2016. On Times Now, he anchored The Newshour, a live debate, that at 9 pm (IST) weekdays on the channel. He also hosted a special television programme Frankly Speaking with Arnab. On 1 November 2016, Goswami resigned as Editor-in-Chief of Times Now. His news channel Republic TV was launched on 6 May 2017.

A man of great talents, Arnab truly scripted his own destiny and reached the zenith of accomplishment as a successful media person and carved a niche for himself in the world of news.

Addressing the session, Arnab Goswami said that India with the help of advanced technology, editorial sophistication and big global channels is on verge of becoming the media capital of the world before the year 2020 and will take on BBC, CNN and other global channels.

“India is the only country where media can question any one on any subject including religion, the kind of journalism that we practice, the way we go overboard, boldness being shown by journalist across the nation and bringing out the truth from lies is helping media become agent of social change This will also help us become global media platform before 2020. That is my dream.” he added.

As a part of its activities, FLO brings together achievers from various arenas for interactive sessions on breaking through challenges and innovating change to achieve success. Arnab Goswami is an inspirational leader and a role model for not only journalists but youth in general. The interactive session was an opportunity for the members to pick up tips, advice and ideas for success and innovation.

FLO President, Ms Vasvi Bharat Ram said, “FLO is the most apt platform to connect, learn and grow. This programme was an excellent opportunity to be motivated by the inspiring success story of Arnab Goswami and learn about his journey to success.”
