Launch of FLO Health Initative: Nurturing the Nurturer

Ficci Ladies Organisation (FLO) launched the National Health Initative for Women: Nurturing the Nurturers on September 21, 2017 at FICCI.

FLO President, Vasvi Bharat Ram said, “To accelerate women’s participation in the process of economic development and achieving the goal of women empowerment, FLO has conceptualised the Health Initiative. With this Initative, we hope to create awareness and arm women with knowledge that will help them take better care of themselves.”

“Nurturing the Nurturer is the theme of the Initative. While the initiative will try and have a 360 degree view on women’s health issues eventually, we would like to initially focus on the breast, cervical and other forms of cancer related to women.”, she added.

Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare, GOI was the Guest of Honour. Hon’ble Minister said, “Increasing incidence of various types of cancers among women especially breast and cervical is a matter of deep concern as both account for about 32 per cent of all cancers . India’s cervical cancer deaths account for around 25% of the deaths worldwide.The central government supplements the efforts of the state government in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer”
Apollo Hospitals has partnered with FLO for this for this important initiative. Dr Anupam Sibal,Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group Senior Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi was present during the programme. Dr. Sameer Kaul, Surgical Oncologist from Apollo Hospitals addressed the members.

Vasvi Bharat Ram said, “FLO, as the oldest women business Chamber, has contributed significantly over the last 34 years towards economic empowerment of women in India has taken up the mandate to assess the current state of cancer care for women in India and identify key imperatives and recommendations for industry stakeholders that will enable effective management of the disease over the medium term.”
Towards this, a White Paper with Ernst & Young on Call for Action: Expanding Cancer Care for Women was released. The thought leadership initiative focuses on women specific cancers such as breast, cervix, ovary, gall bladder, lung, thyroid and mouth.
Dr Vijay Bharathi Rangarajan, the Founder of CAN-STOP (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain). Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan is the Trustee & Director and Neerja Malik, Double cancer survivor along with Lisa Ray were felicitated on the occasion.
