A Panel Discussion on Media Credibility : Hovering between Censorship and Commercialism
January 20th, 2012

A panel discussion was organised on one of the most debated topics 'Media Credibility: Hovering between Censorship & Commercialism'.

The panel comprised three prominent media personalities, Dilip Cherian, one of the India's foremost public affairs consultant and political advisor, Sagarika Ghose, Deputy Editor and a prime time anchor on the news network CNN-IBN and Navika Kumar, Political and Economy Editor of Times Now.

Dilip Cherian, in his witty demeanour, talked about the positive as well as negative aspects of media. He suggested that generalisation of the negative aspects would be an injustice towards the constructive role that media plays.

Sagarika Ghose emphasized on five points i.e. the omnipresence of media, corporatisation of media, its ethical decline, celebrity culture and media as the judge, jury and executioner.

The session was efficiently moderated by Navika Kumar, who articulated her views on the role and impact of media very vividly. She highlighted on the role of media as the watchdog of democracy and added that media cannot be a part of the system if it has to function effectively.

Archana Luthra, Governing Body member hosted the lunch.
