Hon’ble Ms Renuka Chaudhary, Minister for Women and Child Development inaugurated the ‘Save the Girl Child’ project and ‘Adopt a Village’ on July 23, 2008 at 11:00am at the Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi. Smt. Chowdhury said that the Government is committed to protect the rights of children, strive for the elimination of child labour and ensure facilities for education and extend special care to the girl child.
The convenor of the programme ‘Save the Girl Child’ Madhu Kanoria made a presentation on the need for such a campaign and the way in which FLO intends to propagate the message.
Dr. Neelima Singh, an authority on the subject, gave a very touching presentation on the harmful effects of female foeticide in the country.
Jayshree Bhartia, the sponsor of the adopt a village project, spoke of the plans being undertaken in the village Iqbalpur and Kaliwas which were being adopted.
Slides were showcased on the adopted village.
