FLO/ ADB ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (EDP) FOR CRAFTPERSONS As a part of the the Silver Jubilee celebrations of FLO, 5 Entrepreneurship Development Programmes for Crafts persons were organized in various parts of India. These were sponsored by Asian Development Bank. The series began on May 5, 2008 with a 5 day EDP on Embroidery & Tailoring at Dhankot, a village around 15 kms from Gurgaon. An EDP on Soft Toys was held at Kottayam, Kerala from May 9 to 13, 2008 , on Jute Bags & paper bags at Chowhati,Kolkata from May 26 t0 30, 2009 and on Jute Crafts and weaving at Guwahati from June 17 -21, 2008 . The series was concluded by an EDP on Kalamkari Handpainting at Tirupati from June 23 to 27 ,2008. The main aim of these EDPs is to revive, preserve and support declining indigenous knowledge, resources and skills of craftsperson, and to update technologies to generate sustainable livelihood and ensure continuity of cultural traditions. They were also imparted knowledge on financial assistance from commercial banks and other financial institutions and simple methods of book keeping and also about the Central Government and the State Government Schemes for the said crafts for the benefit of craftsperson especially for women. |
